Advent Devotional- December 15

December 15                             Wednesday

Psalm 146:5-10

“Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever”

Having hope in the Lord is a familiar topic to anyone who spent countless Sunday mornings as a child in Sunday school. We dutifully colored the worksheet pages filled with characters from the Bible who found hope and faith in the Lord. But what I find unusual and thrilling about this passage now, as an adult, is that we have hope in a Lord who rules over everything.

Our partner in this topsy-turvy adventure of life is the one who gives justice to the oppressed. This is the God who watches over the stranger and who lifts up the orphan and the widow. When I’m facing challenges in my day-to-day, I draw a lot of strength from my friends and family. How wonderful and incredible is it that we can draw strength from the very source of life? Today, let us give thanks for the blessing of God’s partnership in our lives.
