Advent Devotional-December 5

December 5                                Saturday                                       Blessed

This advent season when I think of blessed, I think of Mary, faithful servant of God chosen to carry in her womb the Son of the Most High. Any pregnancy is a blessing—it is the promise of new life. But how about being told your child will be great because he is God’s, and that God will give your son David’s throne, and that this son of yours will rule Jacob’s house forever—that there will be no end to his reign? Surely Mary was blessed. But here’s the thing, so are we! We are blessed because of this child, Jesus, Emmanuel. God is with us! And with God with us we get to participate in building a life where forgiveness of sins, salvation, and peace are the order of the day. Let us embrace this new life together so that we may be blessings to one another.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you! You are blessed among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Amen.
