November 30, 2009 Monday Waiting
Good things come to those who wait… but let’s be honest, even when there are good things promised to come, who wants to wait?! Waiting requires patience and asks us to let go of the unknown and prepare ourselves for what is to come. And most of the time, it makes us restless!
The good news is that there are dozens of stories of waiting all over the Bible. And most of them involve people begging and pleading with God.
“God, where did you go? Are you still there?”
“Oh God, don’t leave us or forsake us!”
“God, do you hear these prayers? Hello?? Are you really listening?”
Psalm 130: 1-2 offers such a plea: Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD, Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
I love the language in scripture passages such as this one above. I CRY to God. HEAR my voice! LISTEN to me, please!
In the midst of this Advent season, we talk a lot about waiting. We’re all longing for something, or Someone, to come. To come to us and bring help. To offer healing. And hope to broken lives.
As you reflect on what it is, or who it is, you are waiting for, take some time to be comforted by Scriptures such as these. They remind us that we aren’t the only ones who have been waiting. And throughout all of Scripture, we find that God DOES hear our prayers and WILL respond. THAT is Good News!
