Advent Devotional- December 22

December 22

Isaiah 61:10-62:3

For me, one word summarizes the theme of this passage in Isaiah: Newness. Isaiah writes of being clothed in “garments of salvation” and a “robe of righteousness.” He notes that God will make righteousness and praise bloom and thrive. God’s people will be like a precious crown radiating God’s glory. What a great passage to ponder as we continue on our faith journeys and anticipate the start of 2009.

We have been given newly clothed hearts and minds through God’s gift of salvation. We have new opportunities to nurture praise and thankfulness in our individual lives and in our communities. We have new opportunities to glorify God through our thoughts, words, and actions. Praise be to God for his gifts of new life and fresh starts! Let us celebrate this newness in our daily lives.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for your amazing gift of salvation through Christ our Savior. Help us to experience this salvation anew and celebrate it through new ways of doing and being. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
