Music for Kids Begins in October
Here’s a great opportunity for Calvary Kids of all ages: music each week after worship! Beginning Sunday,
October 4, grab a healthy snack in Woodward Hall then come to the Music Suite (G2, by the elevator) for our
12:30 p.m. start time. We’ll enjoy singing, movement, and learning all about music. It’s only a half-hour (we
dismiss at 1 :00 p.m.), so be sure to be on time-or early! Parents and Sunday school teachers, we can use
your help too! We’re creating a rotation schedule for adult helpers, so if you can give one Sunday a month or
more, please contact Cheryl. We’ll see you in the Music Suite!
Handbells Are Here!
Calvary has a gre~t tradition of fine music, and hand bells have always been a part of the mix. They’re back!
This year, keep an eye out for our targeted, seasonal schedule of rehearsals. If you have a little music-
reading skill and experience, hand bells are for you! Youth and adults are welcome, so please contact Cheryl
to sign up.
Handbells: Offer of a Matching Gift
Calvary friends, a very generous donor has made a gift of $750 toward the purchase of our new handbells,
but there is a stipulation asking that the gift be matched by other donors. Can you help with part or all of this
amount? This combined gift, totaling $1,500, will go a very long way in helping to offset the purchase price of
our Schulmerich Handbells. If you can make a contribution toward this matching gift, please contact Cheryl
Branham, cbranham@calvarydc.org, or Paul Rosstead, prosstead@calvarydc.org. Thank you, Everyone, for
your generous support of Music at Calvary. Can’t wait to hear those beautiful new bells in worship.
Lis and Ashley: Pianists for Latino Worship
worship each month. As you know, our Latino congregation meets in the Chapel on the second, fourth and
fifth Sundays of the month. Thank you, Lis and Ashley, for sharing your gifts of music with us this year!
Do You Have the Music in You?
If you have musical gifts of any kind to share, whether you believe your gifts to be great or small, we invite
. you to join us in some area of service! Please be in touch with Cheryl and say YES to Music at Calvary!
Yours in Music,
Cheryl

Music Appreciation Sunday

I thought some of you might wonder where your musicians disappear to over the summer….
I’ve just returned from singing at a music festival in Perugia, Italy, and surrounding towns in Umbria. Okay, it sounds glorious, but it isn’t too much fun to be trapped in a rehearsal room day after day when the weather is glorious and there are amazing places like Assisi and Orvieto to explore, but a singer has to do what a singer has to do!
I’ll be so happy to be back at home at Calvary this coming Sunday and can’t wait to start the fall season.
